In case you were wondering, the <rant content> post that has been up for the first part of the month was not a glitch on the website or a goof on my part but a deliberate exercise in clearing the decks for the new year. I’m sorry it has taken me 18 days to clear the dust and cobwebs from a alarmingly rant-sparse year, but you wouldn’t believe how dusty things are in here [taps side of head].
One of the problems with having been so quiet is that it’s hard to know how best to jump back into rambling on about the all the curious little nodal bits that in aggregate make up my perceptions of the world (which is what ranting is really a reflection of). I guess the best way, really, is to just start. Momentum does require motion, so...
One thing I feel has improved notably over the past few years is my artwork (yes, i said it, don't freak out, it really is me writing this). I’ve actually put a lot of work into trying to improve my drawing abilities (now if I could draw faster...). Drawing characters full-body without draping them in oversized sweaters, sweatshirts and baggy pants has been a huge struggle for me over the years (and a primary driving element of the MT wardrobes), but I think I’ve made some fairly decent progress. You may have noticed that you are seeing more than just waist-up drawings these days.
A few months ago I started a sketch with with three of the girls most in-play with Miho. This was before Yuki found Miho in the current story line, so I didn’t post the sketches. After a while, the drawing came together so well that I couldn’t help posting it as the DPD back in November called 'aggregat3' . I decided it would make a pretty decent poster, so I’ve been working on coloring it. It's getting close to being done, so i posted a preview over of it on fredart. I just need to finish shading out the clothes and then work on a proper background. Once that’s done, I’ll see about getting this to the printers so we can have a new poster in the MegaGear store by the start of next month.
You may have noticed that the masthead at the top of the page has changed to show a new logo (it just felt like time to freshen things up), a new Largo and Piro image (it’s from the Kodansha cover for MT vol. 1) with the somewhat cryptic expression "time[2000-2010]=10yrs+w1|\|!" The first Megatokyo comic went up in August 2000, so this August I will have been doing Megatokyo for 10 years. W00t! 10 years! Wow, where does the time go?
It’s been a crazy 10 years, to say the least.
We’re planning on doing a lot for the 10 year anniversary, the first thing being a 10% off all t-shirts (excluding clearance shirts) at the MegaGear store. I have three new full color shirt designs in the works that will soon be available, as well as a host of other new items in the works. Also, the long awaited new volume of megatokyo, volume 6, is slated for release in June. I’m pretty happy with the cover, now I just need to finish the chapter, not to mention all the hatching I need to go back and finish.
And with that, I shall get back to drawing... Some of which you can watch live on justin.tv if you don’t mind seeing the comic work in progress. There is no specific schedule and I don’t always broadcast when I’m drawing, but if you watch my twitter feeds I usually announce when drawing live. You can watch the embedded feed here or visit Fredarting on Justin.tv
Also, for those of you on facebook, we've launched the an official Megatokyo facebook page, so come and join the zomb13 horde and become a fan. :)
It should be a really interesting year, some looking back, some looking forward. I apologize for the slow pace of posting here on Megatokyo for the past couple of years. I appreciate you sticking with me and hope that as things roll along here you will feel rewarded for your patience.
